Experts working within the NA-ATTC continue to help shape the Advanced Therapy supply chain management landscape.  Prof. John Campbell, Associate Director Tissues, Cells & Advanced Therapeutics at the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) and Prof. Marc Turner, Medical Director, also at SNBTS, have provided valuable insight into the challenges that need to be addressed around procurement of cell and tissues to be used as starting materials for ATMP manufacture.

Prof. Turner’s co-authored paper Challenges in the procurement of starting materials for ATMP manufacture was a spotlight feature in a recent edition of Cell & Gene Therapy Insights, with the foreword provided by Prof. Campbell. This article discusses the procurement of starting materials and provides expert insight into supply chain, collection frameworks and procurement good practice and highlights the potential challenges organisations may encounter.

Prof. Campbell’s co-authored Cell and Tissue Starting Materials for ATMPs article, published in the same issue of Cell & Gene Therapy Insightsfurthers the discussion around starting materials and addresses the main challenges in the supply of high quality, consistent starting materials.
