Congratulations to Michelle Davies, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Christie Foundation NHS Trust, who has been shortlisted for both Cancer Nurse and Nurse of the Year in the prestigious Nursing Times Awards 2019! Michelle has reached the shortlist due to her amazing efforts driving forward the education programme for Advanced Therapies within the iMATCH programme at the Christie, across Manchester and beyond!

iMATCH has provided the resource to drive integration and alignment of the current training programmes across Manchester, providing a harmonised delivery tailored towards varying specialties and roles. Following on from this numerous events have been successful initiated, including the upcoming city wide conference exploring the advanced therapy landscape from current trials through to operational delivery within the NHS. Currently more than 200 staff members have been trained across both The Christie and Manchester Foundation Trust.

In addition, The Christie has created a full ATMP Governance Structure including an ATMP Education and Training Committee and employs an educational practitioner (Laura McNab) working closely with Michelle to coordinate activities and drive the creation of standardised resources. Laura won the poster competition at the UK Clinical Research Facilities conference and has both an oral and poster presentation at the upcoming UKONS (ATIMPs in Oncology…Are Research Teams Ready?) demonstrating the wider interest in this delivery and highlighting the outputs that have been generated through iMATCH. The educational package continues to drive forward to future proof the sites across Manchester by upskilling the workforce in a structured, flexible approach.

Michelle is based within the Advanced Immune and Cell Therapy Research Team, at the National Institute for Health Research Manchester Clinical Research Facility, the Christie.

Finalist interviews for the awards are currently being held and the winner is to be announced in October – Good Luck Michelle and keep up the good work!!!
