Complex Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product (ATMP) clinical trials increasingly require expertise that is distributed across specialties, services and NHS organisations. For a Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell (CAR T) autoimmune trial, two iMATCH partners – Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust – needed to deliver one participant pathway across clinical specialties and NHS organisations, because the required expertise was not located within a single Trust. This new case study from the ATTC network demonstrates how these two iMATCH partners developed a shared care model to deliver this CAR T-cell autoimmune trial.

The ATTC Network has identified the establishment of shared care arrangements as a key challenge in ATMP trial set-up and a broader barrier to the delivery of ATMP clinical trials. Learnings from this shared care approach enabled the development of UK wide shared care guidance through collaboration with partners across the breadth of the ATTC network. The guidance (click here for further details) ultimately aims to support NHS Trusts and Health Boards working within and across organisations to embed or further improve current practice in shared care ATMP clinical trials.
